Modern TV models are often equipped with USB ports, with which you can connect various sources of information. However, these ports are not suitable for directly connecting a computer, which is not the case with laptop connectors.

The considered type of connecting a laptop to a TV is relevant only for relatively new TV models that have HDMI or at least a VGA connector. If there is no such input on your device, then you will not be able to perform further actions.

Step 1: Preparation

By default, you cannot connect the USB port of a TV and a laptop using a double USB cable due to technical issues. At the same time, this can be implemented through a special external USB video card that converts the signal from the computer to HDMI for the TV.

Note: The converter can be oriented to both HDMI and VGA interfaces. Moreover, sometimes these connectors can be present at the same time.

In addition to the converter, there is also Q-Waves Wireless USB AV - a device for wirelessly transmitting a signal from a PC to a TV. This device, according to the standard, is equipped not only with HDMI, but also with a VGA output.

Before purchasing the device, please make sure that your laptop is equipped with a port USB 3.0, which is a prerequisite in both cases.

The best option is a converter, since its only limitation is only the length of the cable, while the wireless analogue is limited to a zone within 10 meters. Whichever option you prefer, the device must be purchased.

If the kit does not include the necessary wires, you will have to purchase them yourself.

Through HDMI, the audio signal will be transmitted without the use of an additional connection, while the VGA cable will require an adapter. You can adjust the sound using the standard tools of Windows OS.

Step 2: Connection

Having dealt with the purchase and preparation of equipment, you can start connecting. We will look at the process of using both of these devices.

Wired connection

Wireless connection

On this, the connection process can be completed, since after the steps taken, both devices will begin to transmit a signal from the laptop to the TV.

Step 3: Setting

After you have completed connecting your laptop to the TV via USB, you need to set up the equipment for proper operation. This applies to both the TV itself and the Windows system settings.

Television

Notebook

The considered approach can be used to connect not only a laptop to a TV, but also some other devices. For example, this method is perfect for connecting a computer to a projector.

After the appearance on the market of plasmas with a large diagonal and HD resolution, many fans of computer games, surfing the net and watching movies on the big screen are faced with the task of connecting a laptop to a TV? You can do this in many ways - using an HDMI cable, a USB connector, or by connecting wirelessly via WIFI.

Today we will tell you about the features of connections and typical problem situations that usually arise in these cases.

How to connect laptop to TV via HDMI?

In order to connect a computer to a TV, it is best to use a wire. Almost all modern electronic devices are equipped with HDMI or miniHDMI outputs, for which special cables are designed.

You can also transfer the image through tulips from a laptop to TV. Even many old TV receivers have appropriate outputs (AV), so connection problems should not arise.

Using an HDMI connection is the best option:

  • The digital interface supports high definition standards, which allows you to watch movies even in Full HD quality;
  • When using an HDMI cable, not only a clear image is transmitted, but also high-quality sound reproduced through the built-in plasma speakers.

So, you are faced with a problem - how to connect a laptop to a TV via HDMI. The procedure for connecting the cable is quite simple and should not cause difficulties. To do this, you only need to connect the wire coming from the appropriate connector on the computer to the plasma.

After that, in the settings of the TV receiver, you will need to select the signal source. For different plasma models (Lg, Samsung, Philips), this can be done in different ways. After connecting all the wires, the TV screen will be the main one, and the monitor will be the secondary one. You can change them in the desktop screen settings ("Screen resolution" tab).

With this connection option, there may be difficulties with sound transmission. To do this, similarly on the desktop, you need to click on the speaker icon and select the "Playback devices" tab.

Note! It is better to make the connection on de-energized household devices, which will prevent power surges in the network and the failure of the electronic components of the equipment.

How to connect laptop to TV via WIFI?

Modern computers equipped with processors of the Intel Core i3 family and above can connect to other electronic devices using the unique WIFI technology. To do this, all the required drivers are already present in the operating system, and if you reinstall it yourself, you will need to preload and reinstall them.

Thanks to the wireless connection technology, you can display the image and sound in high quality on the TV screen. However, connecting an electronic device to a TV receiver using this method is only possible if the plasma itself supports this technology. Usually it is on all expensive TV models.

So, how to connect a laptop to a TV via WIFI? To do this, the TV receiver itself must be connected to the same network router as the computer. The connection procedure itself is carried out from the plasma menu in the same way as connecting any other gadget or electronic device (for example, a tablet or smartphone).

The next step is to set up access to all files stored on the hard drive. To do this, in the network settings, you need to select "Home", and you can share folders with videos, images and music using the "Properties" tab.

After setting up DLNA, you can view files on your computer through the TV screen. Different models of technology can do this in different ways. For example, for LG through the SmartShare program, and for Sony Brava TV receiver models - through the Home menu item and the corresponding sections - movies, music, videos.

How to connect laptop to TV via USB?

It is also possible to connect the laptop to the TV via USB. This option is preferable to choose if the outdated model of the TV receiver does not have connectors for connecting an HDMI cable or the equipment does not support wireless data transfer technology.

In order to watch movies and listen to music, it is enough to purchase a special USB-HDMI adapter. It is an external video card. When choosing an adapter adapter of this type, it is important to pay attention to several aspects - support for fullHD technology and the ability to connect to popular operating systems.

The compact size of a laptop is a convenience on the road or at work, but at home a 14-17-inch diagonal is usually not enough for comfortable video viewing and other entertainment. Why not transfer the picture from a laptop display to a modern widescreen TV using an HDMI interface? To do this in practice is easier than it seems. In general, about everything in order.

General information

Connecting a laptop to a TV with an HDMI cable allows you to transmit sound and picture. It does not require any specific knowledge and complex settings. The only necessary condition is support for HDMI interfaces on both devices.

In this example, we will connect an old 10-inch asus laptop to a Samsung TV with a diagonal of 81 cm.

Training

So, to connect a laptop to a TV via HDMI, we need:

  • 10 - inch laptop;
  • samsung widescreen tv
  • dedicated HDMI cable;
  • quite a bit of time

It remains only to find the necessary connectors (usually signed) and connect both devices, but where can I get the cable?

We connect the TV

For TVs of the Korean brand Samsung, an HDMI cable is often included in the package. In other cases, you will have to go to a computer hardware store.

Connecting an hdmi cable to a laptop

The only disadvantage of HDMI technology is the different quality of cables sold. Therefore, the purchase must be approached responsibly.

Important: connect two devices to each other only after turning them off.

TV setup

The difficulty lies in the impossibility of compiling a universal instruction for setting up all TVs. Even in different models of the same brand, the steps for connecting external devices sometimes differ.

In short, it is necessary to proceed to the choice of the source of the image. Usually this is a button on the remote control, which is popularly called the "exit", located in the upper rows.

Click on it and you will see a list of all possible sources for displaying images on the screen: antenna, USB flash drives, card reader (if any) and HDMI.

Here it must be activated by highlighting and pressing the selection button (usually it is “OK”).

Notebook settings

Since the laptop is already turned on, and the default HDMI cable turned out to be of high quality, the TV will most likely immediately display a picture from its display. That is, settings as such are not required.

Now you can view photos on a large screen, stream video files from your hard drive, and run games.

If something went wrong

Occasionally there are difficulties. For example, the TV has distorted the resolution or there is no image at all, but instead a black screen (the logo of your TV brand floating on it confirms the absence of a signal from the laptop). What can be done in such a case?

On Windows 7, hold down the keys Win+P. This action will display a menu of ways to display the picture on the TV screen.

In this menu, you need to choose the most convenient option for displaying the picture.

If it doesn't help, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on the desktop to open the context menu
  2. From the list go to "Screen Resolution"
  3. In the new window next to "Screen" set to "Multiple Monitors"
  4. Opposite the inscription "Multiple screens" set "Duplicate these screens"

Usually this is enough for the picture to appear. You can also set the resolution here.

If you want the sound to come from the TV speakers, then in Windows, right-click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner and open Playback Devices. There, simply select your TV.

Using such a system, you are probably an advanced user and know the features of its settings. Since the sound from the TV itself is usually needed to watch videos directly from the laptop, you can simply select the audio output device in the video player. Such features are supported, for example,.

Conclusion

Connecting a laptop to a large screen with an HDMI cable is simple and opens up great possibilities for using your computer for home entertainment and work. In most cases, no settings are needed. All you have to do is select HDMI from the list of devices available to your TV and you can enjoy a larger laptop workspace without loss of picture and sound quality.

Good day to all!

Undoubtedly, a large and bright TV screen makes it much more pleasant to enjoy your favorite movie (cartoon), show photos, and just play than a small laptop screen. Do you agree?

In general, today a modern laptop can be quickly and easily connected to a TV with just one HDMI cable: everything about everything will take 1-2 minutes (no more). By the way, HDMI is also good because it simultaneously transmits both audio and video signals.

In this article I will show both the connection process itself and the sound and image settings (sometimes some "nuances" may arise with this ...).

So, on to the topic...

step by step

1) Grade

The first thing to do is to see if there are HDMI ports on your TV and laptop (if you have modern devices, then there is almost certainly HDMI!)

2) Option 1

If both the laptop and the TV have HDMI ports, then you just need to buy a regular HDMI cable (as in the photo below). A similar cable is sold in almost every computer store.

If you want to save money, then any adapters and cables can be ordered in Chinese online stores (if you run into a discount and use cashback, get a cable for "penny") -

Option #2

It also often happens that there is no HDMI port on a laptop or TV. In this case, you will have to use adapters. Now on sale there are a variety of options: Display Port to HDMI, HDMI to DVI, HDMI to VGA (and reverse to them). You can buy in the same, or in computer stores.

Addition!

Monitor connectors (VGA, DVI, HDMI, Display Port). What cable and adapter is needed to connect the monitor to a laptop or PC -

3) HDMI cable connection

Before connecting the HDMI ports with a cable, I recommend turning off both the laptop and the TV (it would not be out of place to turn off cable TV from the TV, if any). This is for precautionary purposes. (a link to an article that HDMI can "burn out" and because of what, is given below) .

Directly, the connection itself does not represent anything tricky. A laptop usually has one port - therefore, it is basically unrealistic to connect a cable to that port ...

As for TV, many models have several HDMIs (most often -2÷4). Here it is important to remember which port number you connected the cable to, see the screenshot below (because with further configuration, you need to know from which port to "receive" the image) .

Important!

4) We get the image from the laptop on the TV screen

Next, turn on your laptop and TV. Then you need to enter the TV settings menu, in the "Input" section (or in Russian "Input"). As a rule, there is a button of the same name on the TV remote control to open this settings section.

5) Done!

If everything was done correctly (and there are no problems with the devices), then you should already have an image on the TV screen, it will be exactly the same as on the laptop screen (at least by default!).

Below I will consider how you can make it so that you can start watching a movie on the TV screen, and do something else on the laptop screen. Also, I will point out the reasons due to which there is no sound on the TV.

Adjusting the Image (Projection)

In general, there are 4 options for how a laptop can work with TV (note: work with the image) :

  1. display the image only on the computer screen, and turn off the TV screen (the option is rarely used, and only temporarily when preparing for viewing, otherwise it would make sense to connect it?);
  2. Duplicate : The image on the computer screen and TV is the same. The most common option, besides, it is used by default when you first connect devices;
  3. Expandable : Convenient when connecting a second monitor to expand your workspace. That is, you will have one large desktop, divided into 2 displays. It is this option that you should choose if you want to watch a movie on TV, and work directly behind the laptop itself;
  4. only the second screen: a popular option. If you start watching a movie on a large screen, then, as a rule, you do not need the image on the laptop screen, and you can turn it off.

Similar modes are set in special. Windows window - it usually appears automatically when a second or third display is connected to the device (see example below).

Also, this window (as in the screenshot below) can be called up by a combination of buttons Win+P(plus no need to press).

In addition, pay attention to the function keys of your laptop. The vast majority of models have special combinations for setting up image projection (for example, on ASUS laptops, this is a combination of Fn + F8).

There is also another option to customize the display: right-click anywhere on the desktop, in the menu that appears, select "Display Options" .

  • select scaling (if on a laptop by default, let's say you have 150%, then on TV you often need to set 100% to make the picture clearer);
  • specify ;
  • set how the image will be projected when multiple displays are connected.

Why can't there be sound

Wrong audio device selected for playback

The most common reason for a laptop not "transmitting" sound to the TV is due to the wrong audio device being selected (because the laptop may be transmitting sound to its speakers, for example).

To manually set the device for audio playback, right-click on the sound icon in the tray and select "Sounds" from the menu that appears.

Note! You can also open a window with sound settings if you go in and go to the "Hardware and Sound / Sound" tab.

To help! If you do not have a sound icon in the tray - then:

Next, in the "Playback" tab, notice that you should have a new audio playback device (for example, Digital Audio (HDMI) as in my example below. It is also often just shown the name of the TV).

You must select this new device, and then click the "Default" button. Thus, the laptop will begin to "transmit" sound to the TV.

No audio driver

It is possible that you do not have some drivers installed (for example, on a motherboard or audio card). With certain "variations", it is possible that you will have sound on the laptop itself, but the HDMI output will be "dumb".

To see if there are any devices for which drivers are not installed - open device Manager (use the combination Win + R, and the command devmgmt.msc ) , and see if there are devices that have a yellow exclamation mark next to them.

Is there an audio driver (drivers installed)

There is no driver for the network card // as an example

To automatically check and update the drivers of all the "pieces of iron" in the PC, it is convenient to use special. utilities - .

We update drivers for all hardware at once / Clickable

Check if there is sound on the laptop

Why there may be no picture on TV

Reason #1

The most common cause of this problem is that one port is selected in the TV settings, and a cable is connected from the laptop to another. Check this point again.

In addition, I recommend clicking on all possible ports in the settings in the "Input" section (rarely, but due to incorrectly labeled ports on TV, there are interesting incidents when the labeled port "HDMI 2" is "HDMI 1" in the settings) .

Reason #2

Check the projection settings in Windows (remember, to open the settings window, press Win + P) . Check that the laptop "feeds" the image to the second display (otherwise, the option is suddenly selected in which only the PC screen is involved, as in the screenshot below).

Reason #3

Check the video driver settings (and its availability, version). If, after installing Windows, you did not install or update the video driver, then this may be the reason (if the drivers are not updated, not all laptop ports may work (and not all features may be available)).

To help! How to update the video card driver (Intel, AMD, nVidia) -

In addition, pay attention to the display settings section in the video drivers. Usually, there is a tab something like "Multiple Displays" (as I have in the example below). Check the settings on this tab.

Intel Graphics Control - Multiple Displays (clickable)

Reason #4

Try connecting another display (monitor, TV) to the laptop. It will not be superfluous to also double-check the operation of the devices using a different HDMI cable. Often, when the cable looks intact, but it is broken inside and simply does not transmit a signal.

Damaged cable (a strong bend at the base of the plug led to damage)

Reason #5

If you have previously connected to the HDMI port of the device in a "hot" way (i.e. did not turn off the laptop and TV), it is possible that you "burned" the port. Unfortunately, this sometimes happens (for example, due to lack of grounding). I have a blog post on this topic:

That's all. If you have something to add - merci in advance!

Connect a laptop to a TV on your own - choose a cable for connection, settings for connecting a laptop to a TV.

It is somewhat difficult to write about how to connect a laptop to a TV. And first of all, because it is not a problem. Just connect them with a cable and make small manipulations. But this is only theoretical. In practice, problems sometimes arise. There are a number of small nuances. Let's get started.

Connect your laptop to your TV.

Choice of cable for connection.

First you need to decide what resolution your TV supports. This information must be specified in the device passport. If you are a happy owner of an LCD, then most likely it will be 1366x768 or 1920x1080. And if it has an hdmi connector, then there will be no problems at all and the picture quality will simply shock you. The best way to connect a laptop to a TV is when using just such an hdmi-hdmi cable.

But we digress a little. On the back of the TV or in the passport, we determine which connectors are available and where they are located. You can even write everything down on paper so as not to confuse. We perform the same manipulations with a laptop. The most common connectors are S-VIDIO, DVI and HDMI. Based on these records, we determine through which places and with what cords the laptop will be connected to the TV. And now some general information about these connectors.

scart Of all the options, this one is the worst. Used extremely rarely. Not applicable on modern devices.

S-VIDEO- is not used very often. The quality is somewhat better than when using Scart, but the difference is not fundamental.

VGA- used quite often. For analog video transmission, the option is very good.

DVI- designed to transmit a digital signal. Some laptop video cards are capable of transmitting not only a picture, but also sound over this cable.

HDMI- at the moment the best option for connecting a laptop to a TV. Picture and sound go through one cable. The resolution is maximum.

Further actions are predictable. We select the same connectors and buy such a cable. With several possible options, preference should be given to a digital signal.

But what if there are no identical connectors for connecting a laptop to a TV? Then you should choose the most optimal combination of connectors and look for either a combined cord or a special adapter.

Now a few words about the purchase of a cord for connecting a laptop to a TV. It is believed that you should not purchase adapters, but it is better to look for a cord with the required types of connectors. Do not buy a very expensive cable. There is no particular difference between them. Unless you turn away from very cheap Chinese options. An ideal cord for connecting a laptop to a mid-range TV. You may be offered expensive cords, citing a variety of possibilities. You shouldn't go for it. Especially if the TV is "not the first freshness." In this case, it will still not be possible to achieve an ideal picture, and it makes no sense to pay money commensurate with the cost of a TV set.

A few words must be said about the length of the cord. The quality of the picture will be higher if the cord connecting the laptop and the TV is short. Not everyone will like this. It is more convenient if they are in different places, and even in different rooms. This is a personal matter for everyone. But it is believed that the maximum length of the cord, at which the reduction in image and sound quality will be insignificant, is up to 5 meters.

Now for the sound. This point will not give you any trouble if you use an HDMI-HDMI cable. The remaining options involve the use of an additional audio cable.

Connection and settings.

So, you figured out how to connect a laptop to a TV. Now it's time to make some adjustments. We turn on the TV. We turn on the laptop. It is possible that the monitor image will immediately appear on the LCD. If this does not happen, do not worry and drink validol. You need to set up multiple monitors. To do this, the drivers come with a special utility. If you have not installed it, then you should google it and download it from the official website of the laptop manufacturer.

Now, to connect the laptop to the TV, right-click on the desktop, select "Properties", then "Settings". At the very bottom of the window there should be an "Advanced" button. You will be able to configure the video output in detail. There are many indicators, but we are interested in the logo of the video card manufacturer. It is from there that the number of monitors is determined. The next steps are - "Displays" - "Screen Split" - "Multiple Monitors". If the laptop is connected to the TV correctly, two displays will appear. If you have the same thing, then it’s clear how to connect a laptop to a TV.

Then you should adjust the resolution of the other display (TV). This was discussed at the very beginning of the article. Another parameter that needs to be set is the view modes. In different models, the names may differ slightly, but it is not difficult to figure out that you can make the images on the laptop and TV the same, you can display the picture only on TV, and the laptop will be dark. You can even make the desktop split in half, and each half will complement one another on different devices. Most often, the “Clone” option is chosen (both the laptop and the TV show the same picture).

After these simple manipulations, the desktop image should appear on the TV screen. You can do everything for which you connected a laptop to a TV. Perhaps there will be still small flaws in the configuration. We are talking about a somewhat stretched / compressed image, sound quality or image braking. So you need to look at the settings of the video card even more carefully.

If you have problems with sound, then you should try switching it from a laptop to a TV using the built-in sound card utility. In the "Control Panel" it will have the sound card logo, and the word Audio.

If you have a modern laptop with good performance, and you already know exactly how to connect a laptop to a TV, then all problems are solved using the settings in the graphics card utility. Just be careful and you'll be fine.
